About

Meet Chef
Nicholas Wisness.

I’m Chef Nicholas Wisness, the founder of Sierra Fare.

Born in Northern California and based in Rocklin, I received my culinary training at American River College and created Sierra Fare to bring thoughtful, seasonal cooking into homes throughout Placer County, the Sacramento region, and surrounding communities.

My cooking is shaped by the ingredients and seasons of this region. I believe produce deserves the same attention, technique, and sense of occasion often reserved for luxury ingredients, and I draw inspiration from California cooking as well as Italian, Mediterranean, and Norwegian culinary traditions. Vegetarian cooking is central to my personal perspective, while Sierra Fare is designed to welcome households with a range of preferences.

Whether I am preparing an intimate dinner or a week of meals, my goal is to make every element feel considered and complete. I want the experience to be calm, collaborative, and respectful of your home. It should feel polished enough for an important occasion, yet comfortable enough to leave room for conversation, connection, and genuine hospitality.

A California Produce-Forward Perspective

Inspired by the ingredients around us.

Northern California provides an extraordinary range of fruits, vegetables, grains, herbs, dairy products, olive oils, and other distinctive ingredients.

I build menus around what is in season whenever practical, drawing inspiration from California cooking and the generous simplicity of Italian, Mediterranean, and Norwegian culinary traditions.

Vegetarian cooking is central to my personal culinary perspective, but Sierra Fare is designed to serve households with a range of preferences. My goal is to create meals in which every element of the plate feels intentional and complete.

Refined, but Approachable

Hospitality that still feels like home.

I believe a memorable meal does not need to feel formal or distant.

The best dining experiences create room for conversation, connection, curiosity, and hospitality. Sierra Fare is intended to feel polished enough for an important occasion and comfortable enough to still feel like your home.

Why Sierra Fare

A name grounded in place.

The name Sierra Fare reflects both a sense of place and a style of hospitality.
